The Activate! project is an initiative to teach children game design and green practices. The project is a collaboration between technology company AMD and multimedia lab PETLab of New York City. The website, targeted towards young adults ages 11-14, contains tutorials for making games in Game Maker. Participants can create their own games and share them with the rest of the Activate! community. Using Game Maker, Activate! presents a structured curriculum for teaching children game design essentials and the benefits of going green. Through gameplay, students can take charge in cleaning up the environment.
During the project I worked with game educator Colleen Macklin as a pixel artist, creating art for the games. You can read more about Activate! [here], see Activate! in action [here], and visit the site [here].
